Hurrah! We have our stuff at a new store: White Rabbit in Iowa City. Grace Locke Ward, the owner of too bad mice (and my favorite piece of pizza) was kind enough to let Kate know about the store and that her stuff would be a good fit there. We're so excited! She has her first package all set to go and it should be on it's way today and hopefully up on the shelves soon.

Hello and thank you to all of you who shared your ideas with us for our 2013 Calendar Theme Contest! After much deliberation today we finally decided on a winner:

It was the first suggestion that was posted, and got stuck in Kate's head from the beginning. Not to mention that two of Kate's favorite photos she's already taken of me are of famous monsters:
Jaws and Godzilla ...

so she's super excited to try and create more like this. We have so many ideas already.

Heya!
As you all may know, Art vs. Craft was this weekend right here in Milwaukee - and I hear from Kate that it was awesome. But more importantly, she came home with presents!
I got this awesome catnip pizza slice from Too Bad Mice - so awesome in fact that she didn't even get a chance to open the package and give it to me before I ripped into it myself.

She also got this amazing luchador black cat brooch from Feltmates (which she wouldn't let me play with for some reason - lame.)

I hope she finds more awesome presents for me at Renegade this weekend!

So we have more awesome news on the retail store front. Domestica from Des Moines, Iowa will now be carrying our stuff in their store, too! Kate even got a chance to meet the owner, Chrissy, this weekend while she was in Iowa for Craft Saturday - although she didn't have a chance to see the actual store since they were closed by the time the fair ended. It look pretty amazing, though, from the photos on their website.
So if you're in the area you should definitely go check them out!

Yellow Umbrella and ICE Pop-Up Shop

We have two new stores to announce that will be carrying our stuff - Yellow Umbrella and the ICE Pop Up Shop.
Yellow Umbrella is a gift shop and gallery that carries both handmade and vintage items in Bemidji, MN. And their shop looks pretty super-amazing. Check out these photos from their blog.

The Indie Craft Experience Pop-Up Shop is located inside of Criminal Records in Atlanta, GA. It will only be open from December 1st - 24th. Kate Funk was chosen along with about 80 other super rad vendors to participate in this short-run shop.

So if you are in either of these areas make sure to go check them out and get your Christmas shopping on!

Hello everybody!
So we're super excited to announce that our stuff is now available in Dots & Loops Handmade Boutique all the way up in Nova Scotia, Canada! Kate Funk just finished packaging up her first order and it'll be on it's way first thing in the morning.

They even have an unofficial store mascot - the owners, Melanie and Stephen's cat Frank. He seems like a pretty cool dude, with being able to shoot lasers out of his eyes and what not.

Amazing.

2013 Calendar Theme Contest

Help! We need a theme for the 2013 calendar. We really liked the last two years where we had themes rather than traditional holiday photographs. (2011 was famous movies and 2012 is musical genres.) But now we're stumped on what to do for 2013.
Since we're always getting suggestions for photo ideas we thought that we'd ask you guys what you want to see and turn it into a contest. Kate Funk, Brennan, and I will vote on the winning idea, and they will receive a free copy of the calendar their idea helped create! (With a bit of a wait while we make it first.)
To enter, leave a comment on this post with your name and some way for us to contact you if you win (email, link back to your blog or profile, etc.).

The contest ends at midnight (CST) of Saturday, December 31st and the winner be will chosen and announced on Sunday, January 1st.

AC's Baby

It's October! Kate flipped the calendar this morning and I got to see one of my favorite photos from last year's calendar - Rosemary's Baby. It's actually a favorite of mine because it was the one photo I didn't have to pose for. This was the one time that miss Kate Funk actually used photoshop for one of her photos (which she gets asked about a lot at craft shows I hear - and I assure you that I sit and pose for all of those photos until we get it just right). If you look closely, you'll notice it's actually the side view from the Mug Shot card flipped on it's side.
It's one of Kate Funk's favorite photos, though, just because she loves the movie. And this time of year. She's already pulled out a stack of her favorite old horror movies (she doesn't seem to like the new ones for some reason) for us to watch in preparation of her favorite holiday - Halloween!

So it's official - the calendar is all finished and at the printers! The arrival date is set for October 13th (hopefully) - just in time for Miss Kate Funk to take them with her to Craftin' Outlaws on the 15th. Until then, though, we're having a Pre - Order Sale on her Etsy site for them. We're offering them for $12.00 - 25% off the retail price if you purchase them ahead of time. (We need some help paying for those ridiculous printing costs that keep going up and up every year.)

heya!
i just wanted to share some photos with you from miss kate funk's trip to the Renegade Craft Fair in Chicago this weekend. apparently her and j had an awesome time - without me.
here's a photo of kate's booth:

they also had a street barber right outside their booth, so mister j decided to take a break and get a haircut.

there wasn't a whole lot of free time for kate to shop around, sadly. the crowds were non-stop and she told me she only got one tiny break for shopping, but never made it through the whole fair to check everything out. but she did snag this awesome t-shirt from her booth neighbors, Urban Posture.

and she picked up these awesome stickers for mister jay since he stayed home to watch me from Mis Nopales Art. they strangely combine two of his favorite things: Star Wars and the Day of the Dead. super awesome.

now it's time to re-coop and finish up this calendar bizness.

Our most favorite craft fair (and the one that gave miss kate funk her start in the crafting world) is this coming weekend! Miss Kate Funk has been hard at work packaging one million cards to bring with her. And her friend, J, will be flying in special to help her out with her booth. Make sure to go out and visit them and check out the amazing fair. She'll be in booth 203 with Hey! Jen Renee. Hurrah!

so miss kate funk was up all late last night working on making me a super awesome red mohawk so that we could take calendar photo number 9 this morning - punk!
i'm pretty pumped about how it turned out. the only problem was that when we finished there were two different shots we couldn't decide between. so instead of choosing one we sent an email to Brennan, the graphic designer for the calendar, who had his co-workers at the TOMS creative department take a vote and we ended up with this as the winner:

and here's the runner up (i think I look better in this one, but it was decided a full mohawk view was necessary).

onto the next genre: Pop music. i think we need to google some Hannah Montana photos for inspiration. gross.

heya!

so miss kate funk and mister jay returned late last night from the Seventh Annual Madison Craftacular with a bunch of photos to show me.

it's one of their favorite shows to go to because the location is so amazing. check out the view from their tent of the lake with downtown Madison in the background.

they lucked out because it was supposed to rain, but thankfully it never showed up and the weather was awesome. they also got to meet the Vaudeville Vixens' (a roller derby team from Madison) mascot at the show who braved an amazing outfit in the heat.

and when it was all over they came home and brought me an amazing present from another vendor at the show - Heart Felt Wool. It's my very own catnip filled cheeseburger! I love it!

Constructor Recap

heya!

sorry it took so long for me to get back to you with news of Kate's visit to the Constructor Craft Fair in Berwyn, Il. miss kate has been super busy this week editing for her other job and wasn't in the mood for sharing the computer. lame.

anyways. so it sounds like kate had a super awesome time at the Constructor Fair (with the exception to the heat) and looks forward to hopefully attending again in the future. It was her first time going to a fair without a helper which made her super nervous. but her friend, Danni, from *innad* was super nice and had them put their booths near each other so they could help each other out if they needed breaks.

side note - she was also informed by some of her friends, Jennifer and Justin, who live in Berwyn that the movie Adventures in Babysitting had a scene filmed at the very bar the fair was at. AMAZING!

anyways. Here are some photos she took from her booth. she was outside under a super cool looking tent.

while she was there she also did a little bit of shopping/trading, too. (although she came back with nothing for me - not cool). here are some of the awesome finds she got:

Kate and Jay's Tennessee Road Trip Adventures

hey ya'll!

sorry it's been forever since i've written. i've been on vacation for the last week at miss kate funk's parent's house in northern wisconsin. kate's mom just drove me home tonight and i got to hear all about kate and mister jay's amazing trip to Tennessee for Chatty Crafty.

they started out with the longest drive in the world across 6 states (although I guess they were only in Georgia for a few minutes before the highway looped back into Tennessee). out of the whole drive it sounds like they Louisville was their favorite stop. here are some photos of them at Doc Crow's - a super amazing restaurant with amazing food to match.

they eventually got to the show which took place in Chattanooga, TN. I hear it is the most beautiful city. they didn't have any photos of it to show me, but I guess Jay took some video that hopefully I'll get to see and share with you guys later. anyways, here are some photos from kate's booth.

everything went awesome with the show with the exception to some weather problems. about 2 hours before the show should have ended on the last day they were given a warning that a huge storm was on the way and they needed to evacuate immediately. luckily, their hotel was only a block away. Jay ran all of the important things to their room just in time and missed getting poured on. miss Kate wasn't so lucky. she stayed behind to take the tent and tables down. by the time jay returned her and everything with her was soaked.

here's a photo of her once they got back to the hotel room. (she wasn't very happy (also because jay neglected to tell her until they got in the room that her clothes had become see-through from the rain)).

anyways - so once the show was over they took their time on the way back making sure to stop at some roadside attractions. here are some of the photos they shared with me.

Unraveled DIY Festival

heya!

so miss kate funk returned this Sunday night from her weekend in Minnesota at the Unraveled DIY Festival (which i hear she had an awesome time) - and she brought me presents! her booth neighbor was Marvelous Melissa who makes some amazing cat toys. i got some darn! socks. according to the packaging they are made from recycled old holey socks and filled with organic catnip, some recycled crinkly plastic, pistachio shells, and pop bottle stuffing. they are by far my new favorite toy. go check 'em out!

guess what?

as of this last weekend there is another Milwaukee (our favoritest town in the world) location where you can find our cards - Dragonfly on Brady! it's a super cute store on the East Side owned by miss Annette. I wasn't lucky enough to go check it out, but Kate told me all about how nice she was, how awesome the store was, and that there is even a super cute dog named PeeWee that hangs out in there all day long! she even did some shopping while she was dropping the cards off there for our upcoming hipster photo shoot. we now have loads of little me-sized records (since we all know how the hipsters love their records).

anyways - if you live in the Milwaukee area or are visiting make sure to go check it out.

heya! so we did another shoot today for the upcoming calendar. this time the musical genre was heavy metal. i wasn't super pumped about it seeing as the wig miss kate funk got for me was actually for a small child and way too big for me. she tried to alter it to fit me a bit better, but it didn't quite work out. but i still rocked it, nonetheless. i actually got the shot on the very first photo since i'm such a pro. check it.

we continued to shoot anyways - just in case. here's one kate really liked, but she said i was too slouchy (which i don't understand - tyra told me that's the way to do it) and you could see the floor sadly.

here's a photo showing how ridiculous the wig was the kate made me wear. it's bigger than i am!

anyways. onto the next. i think it's time to see how i fare as a hipster.

so miss kate funk got some great news last night. she's going to be a part of Chattanooga, Tennessee's Chatty Crafty Fair! we realize it's quite a hike to travel that far for a craft fair - but the allure of a road trip (especially one with a detour through Nashville!) sounded pretty awesome and her husband, Jay, convinced her to apply. i'm a little bummed since i don't get to come along, but that's a little too long of a car ride for me.

2012 calendar begins!!!!

heya!

so miss kate funk started working on the 2012 calendar this last week. and the theme is ..... musical genres!

she was inspired after taking the photo for my AC Be Ballin' card last year (which will be in the calendar as well).

we decided to tackle the hippies first, did our first shoot this last week, and came up with this awesome photo: AC's Acid Trip (which will be up for sale soon on her etsy shop as a greeting card).

stay tuned for more. i've been seeing her doing a lot of work making a me-sized boombox...

heya!

with garden season about to approach (miss kate got all of her seeds and supplies this last weekend and is excited and ready to go) kate decided it was time to start putting some of her garden markers up on her etsy site. she started making them last year as a present for me and some of her other friends' kitties. you can read about it here. and she sold them at a bunch of craft fairs last year, too, but didn't ever get around to putting them up on etsy until now. she also traveled up north this past weekend to her use her dad's workshop to make a bunch more. they'll be up soon.

she's also going to be at the East Town Market at Discovery World this weekend and will be bringing everything with her there - so make sure to go check that out if you are in the Milwaukee area.

So for just this one time I'm stealing AC's blog and taking the chance to thank all of the vendors and Etsy shops who helped out with our recent wedding.

Things started out really rocky with our wedding planning. I was having my wedding dress custom made for me by Bridal Bliss Design on Etsy. That ended in a huge disaster with me unable to leave negative Etsy feedback to warn others. It's a ridiculously long story, but if any brides are thinking of using her and want the inside scoop please feel free to email me about it.

My dress was eventually saved and re-designed with the help of local designer, Melissa Ebel, and tailored to fit me perfectly by the amazing Diane of P'dia, a local shop here in Milwaukee.

After that I was a bit leary about planning our wedding with the help of Etsy stores, but decided to move forward and not judge any others on my one bad experience.

We ended up using Cyberoptix Tie Lab for all of the guy's ties, which I loved. Bethany, the owner, was so great to work with. We just picked the colors out and let everyone choose the designs they wanted.

Jay also got his cufflinks from the Etsy shop Cosmic Firefly.

My hair clip was from the Etsy Shop Design by Night and my handbag (which I can't find in any photos, sadly) was from Katsuro Vintage Attire.

And we got these great mustaches for our photo booth from Whisker Works. People loved them so much that we left that night with some missing.

But my favorite Etsy purchase was for our wedding "flowers". We bought everything from Succulents Galore, and they shipped it all out to our hotel where the amesome Alex from Thistle Floral put everything together to make these beautiful cacti centerpieces for our Reception and the most amazing bridal bouquet I've ever seen.

As for all the design work for our wedding, we had help from two great graphic designers. Mister Brennan Groh (who is my partner on making AC's cat calendar every year) made our invitations, which I love.

Miss Allison Beilke helped us out, too, by making our wedding programs (which I love how un-traditional she went with them) and these amazing maps that we put into all of our guests' welcome gifts to help them get around.

We also had tons of help from Erin of Goldiluxe, Joe Gorges and Scott Bergmann who both jumped in to take photographs for us when our photographer dropped out on us, and Michael of 811 Productions who took video for us (which is yet to come).

heya!

sorry i haven't written in so long. things have been a bit hectic around here. and as of this last Sunday, miss kate funk and mister jay finally tied the knot! i didn't get to go along to Las Vegas to celebrate, sadly, but kate did bring me back this super fancy hat from her bachelorette party courtesy of miss allison and miss erin. it fits me perfectly. (you can see how pumped i am about it in the photo.) we still have a million more photos and videos coming. and kate even took her super 8 camera along with her to the Neon Museum. i can't wait to see the footage! i'll have to show you everything once it's ready.

heya! sorry it's been so long since i wrote. miss kate has been super busy getting ready for her wedding that is coming up in a couple of weeks, so working with me has been the last thing on her mind. but she does has some exciting news: there is a new store opening up in Grafton, WI called The Arts Mill Boutique that will be carrying our greeting cards! Kate got a chance to go visit the space and said it was super awesome. It's located inside of the Historic Grafton Mill building. and all of the profits they make go towards the North Shore Academy of the Art's art, music, and performing arts programs! They aren't open just yet - we'll let you know when the grand opening is coming up. Until then you can find more info about them on the North Shore Academy of the Arts website.

so miss kate funk finally had some free time and was able to make some new greeting cards with photos from the 2011 Calendar (which is now on sale for half off!). she just put them up on her etsy shop. there is February's AC and the Chocolate Factory, July's AC is Jaws, and November's AC Eastwood. she also came out with {The Big Screen} Boxed Set which includes all 3 of those new cards as well as two older cards from the calendar: AC is Rambo and AC is Godzilla.

attention all Madison peoples! there is a brand new store that is about to open up called The Glitter Workshop - and they will be carrying our stuff! miss kate funk is super pumped to have another store added to her list in her favoritest of all states: Wisconsin. it sounds like Naomi, the owner, is shooting for November 13th as their grand opening. check it out yo.

also if you are in the Madison area on December 11th make sure to check out the Sixth Annual Holiday Craftacular, which is also being organized by The Glitter Workshop. kate participated in their summer show and is super excited to join them again for the winter version. it's a great chance to shop for handmade presents for the holidays. so in addition to revamping the back of our cards, mister brennan groh also helped us out by by re-doing the text on the inside of some of our cards as well as creating matching stickers for them. i had miss kate funk take a photo of a couple of them to show you all what they look like.

movie #12 - 7 Year Itch

and it's done! we're finally finished shooting the photos for the 2011 cat calendar! it took way too long, and tons o' work, but it's done. we did the last photo shoot this morning. miss kate funk wasn't happy because she was up all night finishing the backdrop despite my attempts to stop her from doing so by insisting on tummy rubs and attacking her pencil non-stop. but she most certainly got me back by making me dress up as the famous marilyn monroe for this shoot. not cool.

anyways.

so now it's time to send everything off to the printers. we'll let you know when we get them back and they're finally up for sale. hurrah!!!

heya!

so there have been a lot of changes going on around the office here that we thought we should let everybody in on. miss kate funk has reached a point where she's been pulling her hair out with way too much to do and had to make some hard decisions to help alleviate some of her stress. so it was decided that it was finally time to hand the printing and cutting of her cards over to a third party.

being the control freak that she is, she's not 100% excited about this decision. but there are some upsides:

first - she decided it was time to update the back of her cards. she turned once again to the amazing mister brennan groh for some help and this is what he came up with:

we're all really pumped about it. we just got the proof back from the printers yesterday and love it. (and i think it smells pretty awesome, too.)

second - the paper stock is so much nicer than what miss kate has been using up until now. it's much thicker and has a glossier front.

third - this gives miss kate so much more free time to work on new photos (and hopefully replace some of the older designs she's no longer in love with). she spends all her time now printing, cutting, folding, and packaging cards nightly. with the first three steps gone she should have tons more time to focus her attention on other things. and maybe have a night off once and awhile, too.

so with the good comes the bad. she will sadly have to raise the prices of her cards once the new ones arrive. there's no way she could sell them at the current prices and make any sort of profit with the price it costs her to print them. lame.

the final piece of news (which kate thinks sucks - but i think rules) is that she will be discontinuing her Polaroid card line. that's right. it's all about me now. boom. they are on sale for now on her etsy site. the prices for the AC cards hasn't gone up yet, either, so you can still snatch those up at the lower price until the new ones arrive.

movie #11 - National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

so today we shot the National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation photo for the month of December in the upcoming calendar. miss kate funk was really excited since this is her all-time favorite christmas movie. i got to play the awesome Randy Quaid, sans a glass of whiskey - which we discovered from the last shoot that i am not a big fan of. we actually got a shot right away since my modeling skills are constantly improving. so there's not much to show from the shoot. here i am before the shoot. i was waiting for miss kate to leave because i really wanted to eat the trees on the set, but she kept guard over them the whole time. super lame.

so we've only got one photo to go. and it's the one i've been dreading since i'm not a huge fan of cross-dressing. there are sure to be lots of good photos from that one, though, since every time kate and jay try on my costume they can't stop laughing at me. ugh.

movie #10 - Animal House

so we took the photos for Animal House today! i got to be the beloved character, John Blutarsky, in his famous pose. sadly, we discovered that unlike miss kate funk - i am not a lover of the Jack Daniel's. due to my inability to hold a bottle of whiskey we had to get creative on this one and kate had to make me a fake arm. the effect didn't really work out that well - but it still looks pretty hilarious.

movie #9 - Rosemary's Baby

so miss kate funk finished up another calendar photo today (we're just flying through these now). it wasn't a whole lot of work on my part - since i didn't have to wear a costume, just pose. and she did cheat and use photoshop for the first time ever - which she seems to feel guilty about. but she really wanted to do Rosemary's Baby for the Halloween photo. she loves all things fall and Halloween, and Rosemary's Baby is one of her all-time favorite horror films, so after lots of hemming and hawing she decided to go for it. We can't show you anything from the shoot - since there was very little going on. but i'm pretty sure you all know where we're going with this.

movie #8 - The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

heya!

so we just finished up shooting for the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. miss kate funk had actually never seen it before, but wanted an excuse for me to wear my brand new fancy cowboy hat. she had to go out and rent and watch it first. it was much better than we both expected, neither of us being western movie fans. kate grew up with her dad watching westerns all the time, but this was the first time she actually sat down and watched one all the way through. plus a younger Clint Eastwood wasn't awful to look at for 2 and a half hours (her words - not mine).

anways. there aren't too many photos from the shoot to show, since i did awesome this time. she didn't even need a helper i was so good.

renegade recap

heya!

so miss kate funk and mr. brennan returned this last sunday from the renegade craft fair in chicago with lots of awesome-ness to share with me. i hear it was the best so far for sales and everyone loved the new photos of me from the upcoming calendar. the strange part is that they left with a car packed to the ceiling with things and the one thing they both forgot was a camera, so there was little to show me from the actual fair. kate did snap this one photo from her phone of the awesome show put on by mucca pazza. they made a stop right in front of her tent. she couldn't get out any further to see them with the crowds - but i hear it ruled.

she did come back with a bunch of awesome purchases (although nothing for me for once. lame. last year she was next to a cat toy booth, but they weren't there this year.)

so i had the honor this morning of playing Brian from the super 100% awesome movie, Half Baked, for another photo for our calendar. it was so much work. here's me taking a rest afterwards.

i got to wear this super ugly but super delicious Jerry Garcia's ashes satchel mister jay and miss kate made for me. it was kinda distracting while we were trying to shoot and kate had to keep pulling it outta my mouth. but once we were done she let me chew on it for awhile. so good.

so we finally, FINALLY took the Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory photo this morning. it took way too long for miss kate to get her act together on this one. (although there were a lot of props and costume pieces to make for it). we don't really have any photos to show from the set, but here i am patiently waiting on the kitchen table for her to finish setting everything up before we shoot.

so miss kate funk returned late last night from the Madison Craftacular with lots of awesome things to tell me about. i guess it turned out to be a great show - awesome weather (despite a lot of wind that made the tent a little scary), lots of awesome vendors, and even more awesome customers. mister jay went with her as her helper (and beautiful day to have a drink - drinking partner). here are the photos she brought to show me:

heya!

so have you ever seen the commercials on television for Mutual of Omaha's "aha moments"? well yesterday miss kate funk was contacted by the company producing those commercials and was asked to be filmed this friday to talk about her crafting bizness!!!! I guess they are traveling the country on a 25 city tour and are going to be in Milwaukee this Thursday and Friday. You can find more information about it here.

so naturally she asked me to come along with her - because let's face it - without me there really wouldn't be anything to talk about. i'm so pumped! i had to check out my closet right away to find something for me to wear. i'm bringing 3 options so they can choose which works best, but i'm hoping they let me wear my sailor outfit. it's my all time favorite.

anyways. once the video is out i'll let you all know. i guess they put them all online and then people vote on their favorites to see which ones get put onto TELEVISION!

so after miss kate funk bought me a catnip plant awhile back, i decided my fellow Milwaukee cat friends needed to have some, too! so i had miss kate funk go pick up a couple of plants and re-pot them nicely for me. (i'm only good at pulling plants out of pots - not putting them in.)

it also gave kate a chance to try out something she's been wanting to do: making spoon herb markers! she's shown me a bunch on etsy she loves, but never had any extra money to spend on them - especially since her garden is so huge that she'd need a million of them. after reading an awesome blog entry by her friend Jessica of Window Ledge Arts she headed out to some thrift stores to find some cool spoons. the findings were a little slim, but she's still on the lookout for more. these were only her first attempt - so no judging - but i still think they're pretty cool. i hope Rosie, Roxie, and Mabel like them! (and if you're reading this, Erin and Allison, don't let them in on the surprise.)

The Dandy Lion

so miss kate just sent off her first shipment today to a brand new store in New Albany, Indiana called The Dandy Lion! they aren't open just yet (and their website doesn't seem to be up and running yet, either) but you can find some information about them on their blog. It sounds like they're opening at the end of July with plans to not just sell awesome wares, but also function as a mini music venue at night and a non-profit children's art studio by day.

so miss kate funk found out that she will be heading off to the Renegade Craft Fair in Chicago again this year! it's on September 11th and 12th from 11am - 7pm. this year mister brennan groh and miss kate funk will be heading out together for lots o' fun and hopefully be bringing along their new 2011 world's most super amazing 100% awesome cat calendar with them (that's the goal at least - we'll see if they can finish it up in time).
